Chris Niarchos is the founder and chairman of the Cobra Group of Companies. Drawing on his wealth of experience and knowledge, he is an inspirational business leader, driving the group forward and setting the strategic direction of the businesses within it.
Ambitious from the outset
Born in Toronto, Canada in 1965 to Greek parents, Chris showed entrepreneurial ambition and ability from a young age. At just 22, he set up his first business in Sydney, Australia. A direct sales enterprise, originally called Cobra Group, it served as his foothold in the business arena and enabled him to hone his talents and build his expertise.
Within a few years, his sales and marketing business had expanded into over a dozen countries, and by 2000, Chris was well on his way to worldwide success. Chris’ business portfolio had also diversified considerably under Cobra Group so, to give the sales and marketing operation its own unique identity, it was rebranded as Appco Group in 2011. Appco now has operations in more than 20 nations, making it the only truly global direct sales and marketing company.
Beyond sales and marketing, Cobra Group’s businesses span a wide range of industries, including management consultancy, insurance, start-up investments, software development, home services, health and beauty, home efficiency, aviation recruitment and training and high-performance race-car manufacturing.
The ability to harness potential
Although the Cobra Group is diverse, there is a common thread that runs through all of these companies and this is the fact that Chris is committed to opening up opportunities to the people associated with them. A natural leader, he has an innate talent for harnessing the potential of individuals and organisations through his partnership approach.
A dedicated sportsman
As well as being a committed businessman, Chris is a motorsports enthusiast. In 2007, in partnership with Andrew Kirkaldy, he formed CRS Racing. Chris has long since retired from the track himself, but he was a talented driver. His career highlights include being crowned 2006 British GT Champion and winning the MSA Gold Flag and the 2006 Cavallino Trophy in the same year. Chris brings his passion, dedication and skill to bear in all he does and is continually seeking new challenges and opportunities.
